The top swimmers flocked from their respective Clubs in Scotland in order to compete at this highly acclaimed meet where Garioch’s spirits remained high despite the long journey the individual families had to make. With 71 clubs competing at this meet Garioch managed to pull off an extremely high ‘strike rate’ for finals in comparison to some of the composite teams. Needless to say their hard work paid off as a result of the intense training programmes undertaken throughout the year in preparation for this meet.
Throughout the course of the meet the crowd watched as Emily Jones (15) pick up a staggering 8 gold medals in 100brst, 200brst, 200IM, 100fly, 200fly, 100free, 200free, 400IM, whilst also finishing 1st in all the qualifying heats. All the swimmers, including David Smith, Sarah Smith, Ruth Bryce, and Abbey Freer, improved on their times and still managed to psyche themselves up to take part in the Relay events during the evening sessions along with their fellow team mates which included Robert Bryce and Nicole Mowat. These proved to be great finales.
This event was enhanced by Gitte Whitehead and Dave Adams who gave up their free time to coordinate the event along with Phoebe and Carmel, so ‘thanks’ go to them.
