UDASC Challenge Meet 26th November 2006

The UDASC Challenge is a challenge for all!15 swimmers were invited to the party and we did enjoy ourselves.

Mikey started on the dance floor with a foxtrot (200FC) which took him less time than normal, then Emily took the floor with a hectic butterjive with all the right moves. Oliver had a nice PB in his FLY, Imogen in her BC, Laura in the 50BRST,Rosie in 100FC and slight one for MS Pirie.

Greig came waltzing in with a 4.88 sec PB in the 200FC ,Chloe kept up her good foot work in the Brst and Jonas did not do to bad either.

Emma, Ryan and Michael did a great job with the sprints ,last but not least David full house of PB’s - “2 Fast 2 Furious”.

Phoebe had a lovely lunch.

Thanks to Ken for saving the last dance for me and all the parents for being inside on such a lovely day in Aboyne.

Over and all out, GITTE

Buckie – It’s Mile-eeeee not Mill-eeeeee

Buckie mini-meet came around as the first competitive event for a while due to the cancellation of the Mitchell. A good opportunity for the 11 and unders to get up the road for a bit of competitive swimming and a reasonable medal haul and 60% of swims in PB times was the result.

Performer of the day was Andrew Bryce in the 11 year old boys taking the age group male cup for best swimmer and three golds and a silver in the process only narrowly missing out in the breaststroke for the clean sweep. In addition Alastair Miley yes Miley not Millie as was announced waded in with a silver and two Bronze and Chloe West with a couple of Silvers and Findlay Douglas with a fourth place flash in the 8yr freestyle, well done all. But for a club entry error regarding age Lois Milne would have a silver for her backstroke in the 9year old category, that Hytek software isn’t perfect (called her 9 and gave a DOB for 10!!!!)

I believe all the swimmers enjoyed their competition and once again the results reflect efforts put in week in week out in training. Be assured that the harder you train and the more attention paid to the coaches the further up the leader board / medal podium you’ll find yourselves so keep it up and enjoy. Still got a blue Garioch top, a single sandal (Bex) and a Nike drinks bottle so if you’re the owner let us know and reclaim at next session.

Thanks to Julian especially on the poolside organisation and marshalling of swimmers which was smooth as silk, cheers.

ND Sprint Champs & Distance Time Trials

07/10/2006 - 08/10/2006

Where are we now, where were we a year ago and where are we going. I guess the answer to these if the swims this weekend were anything to go by are definitely on the right path. Smiling faces tumbling times and a hatful of finals in sprints and placings in the distance events all indicated a great weekends swimming and in my opinion a successful meet. We had the objective and met it.

A total of 18 club records came tumbling down. Record breakers over the weekend were as follows:- A Bryce 1, G Rennie 3, D Smith 3, J Whitehead 3, R Harrison 2, M Smith 4 and E Jones 2.

Cults Otters Bibby Challenge

On a misty September ,morning Garioch made the journey to the excellent  Northfield pool with a compliment of 17 young swimmers to take on the might of COAST and other local clubs from the North East of Scotland. The late rescheduling of the venue from the Bon Accord ably accomplished by our hosts from Cults Otters, yet another demonstration of how the gritty folk within our swimming community overcome the problems of local facility availability (dig dig).

The day started with a fantastic swim by young Penny Leake to take the silver in the female 400m 8-10 age group, great swim Penny. Rachel Pirie and Sarah Rennie narrowly missed out on the medals in the corresponding 13-14 age group coming in 4th and 5th respectively. Further medal success came again for Penny in the 200IM getting a bronze in age group and Michael Freeman likewise with a bronze breaking up the COAST swimmers in the 400 free 13-14 age group.

Swim of the day had to be the fly display by Rosie Maddock knocking a full 8 seconds from her 100metre fly time with a smooth swim with fine technique for other swimmers to follow.

Overall a credible third place for Garioch behind COAST and Westhill. If not for a couple of DQs that siver place would have been ours. Onwards and upwards through the season guys n gals, its going to be a tough one but the goal is there to be achieved and y’all can do it.
